The planned high-speed rail link between Budapest and Belgrade is scheduled to be completed by the end of 2023, according to Péter Szijjártó, Hungary's minister of foreign affairs and trade.
Two groups of Hungarian and Chinese companies have submitted offers for the tender to construct the Hungarian section of the planned railway line, Szijjártó said during his visit in Beijing.
He expects a contract with the winning consortium may be signed by the end of this year, at the latest.

The Hungarian stretch of the rail link is estimated to cost up to Ft 525 billion and would be financed through a Chinese credit.
The development is expected to help China improve its access to European markets and allow to transport Chinese goods to landlocked European countries from the port of Piraeus in Greece.
