The government has reduced its financial support previously earmarked for the construction of the long-planned new convention and conference center in Budapest by Ft 4.3 billion.
These funds will be now put towards the future development of sport facilities, the government said, without elaborating. It is yet unclear whether the current reduction will be compensated for at a later stage.
Hungary has been seeking to build a new convention and conference center in Budapest for several years, but the project suffered multiple delays.
According to original plans drawn up in 2016, the potential center would be built near the Művészetek Palotája (MűPa) on the Pest side of the Danube.

It would feature a plenary room with 4,100 seats, three other conference rooms for 700-1,200 people each and 60 smaller rooms with a capacity of 50 seats each.
The complex would also have exhibition space of 16,000 square meters, a rooftop reception area for 1,000 people and parking spaces for 450-500 vehicles.
While the construction permit for the center was issued in August last year, it is yet unclear when the development may actually begin.
