Preliminary figures show that the number of guest nights in Eger, northeast Hungary, increased to more than 600,000 last year, well exceeding 2017 numbers, according to Márta Majnár Hegedűsné, managing director of local tourism organisation Egri Városi Turisztikai Nonprofit.

The share of foreign guest nights in the city increased significantly last year, reaching 30%, according to data from statistics office KSH. This share has nearly doubled since 2013. The top inbound markets included Poland, Slovakia, Czech Republic and Germany.

The visiteger.com tourism website Eger launched last year generated 437,000 page views from about 107,000 visitors within the first six months of its operation. Most of the foreign visitors were from Poland, Slovakia and the US.
