Foreign and domestic guest nights rose by 7.6% and 14%, respectively, in January, according to the latest data from the Central Statistics Office.

Foreign visitors spent nearly 789,000 guest nights in Hungary in January, 7.6% more than a year earlier. Growth stood at 5.1% at local hotels, which accounted for about 90% of the total number of guest nights, the statistics office said.

The number of domestic guest nights also increased year-on-year, by 14%, to more than 744,000 in January. Demand were higher in all geographical regions, except for Lake Tisza in eastern Hungary.

The average occupancy rate of hotels was up by 2.3 percentage points, reaching 44.8%. Total combined gross revenues at hotels increased by 11% to Ft 27 billion.

Within hotel revenues, income from accommodation fees rose by 9.3% to Ft 14 billion, while hospitality services contributed with Ft 6 billion in January, 24% more than a year earlier.
