AccorHotels is looking for new opportunities to operate properties in Hungary and plans to complete the overall upgrade of three existing hotels in Budapest in 2018-19, according to Luc Gesvret, managing director of AccorHotels Hungary.

The hotel chain opened its new 145-room Ibis Styles Budapest Airport hotel at the Ferenc Liszt International Airport in January and will also re-open the former Hotel Wien in the Hungarian capital as Ibis Styles Budapest City West this fall, Luc Gesvret said.

He said the company will complete the renovation of Mercure Korona in the next few weeks and will fully upgrade two other hotels - Mercure Buda and Mercure City Center - by early 2019. The total value of the firm's ongoing developments at its Hungarian properties amounts to about €35 million.

Following its upgrade, Mercure City Center will no longer have a reception desk and guests will check-in and out using tablets. The renewed hotel will also feature a brand new restaurant concept named WineStone, which will offer a selection of traditional Hungarian meals and local wines.

Another innovation will be the introduction of a mixed-brand hotel in Budapest: the upgraded Mercure Buda will offer 150 rooms under the Ibis brand and another 250 rooms under the Mercure brand.

AccorHotels currently operates 18 hotels in Hungary through Orbis, its Polish subsidiary, and also runs the Budapest Congress Center, the country's biggest congress and conference facilit with a capacity of 2,000 seats.

Total revenues rose by 15.4% in Hungary last year, while the average revenue per available room (Revpar) increased by 14.3% in 2017 from a year earlier, Luc Gesvret said. He said Budapest is getting more and more popular both for leasure and business tourists.
