The government will spend Ft 9 billion in total on the reconstruction of the historic castle in Eger in the next few years, officials have announced.

Planned works will include upgrading the entrance area at the southern gate, installing a new ticket office, rebuilding the 16th century Varkoch bastion and its related draw-bridge and constructing a new visitor center.

The castle in Eger is one of the country's most visited fortresses with more than 400,000 visitors a year. Its reconstruction will be financed from the government's National Mansions and Castles Program.
