The total number of guest nights at Hungarian hotels and other accommodation providers rose to 29.5 million last year, up by 6.7% from a year earlier, the Central Statistics Office said in its latest report.
Budapest recorded an even bigger annual growth, at 7.3%, with the number of guest nights exceeding 10 million in the capital in 2017.
The number of guest nights in Hungary increased at a rate of more than 6% for the fourth consecutive year. Growth was bigger than the EU average of 5.1% and Hungary also performed better than some of its regional peers, like Austria (2.3%), Slovakia (5.9%) or Poland (5.1%).

Accommodation revenues increased by 16.8%, the highest rate in the past five years, to Ft 278 billion. Accommodation revenues from foreign guest nights were up by 18.6%.
These statistics show that demand for Hungarian hotels is continuously rising despite an increase in average rates.
