The number of foreign guest nights at domestic accommodation providers declined by 2.2% to 1.2 million in April from a year earlier, according to the latest data from the Central Statistics Office.

This year's Easter holiday partially took place at the end of March, not in April, like last year, which negatively affected guest night figures, according to Zoltán Güller, chief executive at the Hungarian Tourism Agency (MTÜ).

He said all other benchmark data of Hungarian tourism showed improvements in April. The number of domestic guest nights, for example,  rose by 0.9% to more than 1 million and the average occupancy rate of hotels increased by 0.3 percentage points to 61.2%.
