Average hotel room prices in Budapest are expected to decline by 5-10% in July and August compared to the same period of last year, according to László Könnyid, president of the Association of Hungarian Hotels and Restaurants (MSZÉSZ).

Room rates are expected to decrease from high prices in the base period, which were driven by big international sporting events last summer, such as the Fina World Championships and World Masters Championships.

The current forecast is based on preliminary booking data. Könnyid also said that the average occupancy rate is expected to exceed 80% in July and August.

Budapest received 1.2 million visitors and registered 2.9 million guest nights in total in January-April this year, up by 5.5% and 4.6%, respectively, from the corresponding period a year earlier.
