The city of Miskolc in northeast Hungary is planning to carry out investments of several billions of forints next year to further develop several local attractions, according to municipal commissioner Réka Nagy.
Planned projects include upgrading the Diósgyőr castle, reconstructing wine cellars in Avas, and further expanding the thermal bath and spa in Miskolc-Tapolca by constructing new adventure pools.

Tourism industry professionals expect that Miskolc will have a good year this year in terms of guest nights and the number of visitors, Nagy said.

The city recorded 215,487 guest nights in the first half of this year, up from 198,202 a year ago, while its revenues from tourism tax rose to Ft 97 million from Ft 89 million in the same period.
Miskolc attracts an increasing number of Polish visitors, but the city's top inbound tourism markets also include neighbouring Slovakia and Ukraine.
Heavy industry had been the predominant sector in the city from the 1960s, but its role and significance has been shrinking since the 1990s.
