The government is planning to build a new multi-functional motor sports arena in Nyíregyháza to house motocross, rallycross and go-kart races in the future, Tünde Szabó, state secretary for sports, has announced.

The government has approved financing for the planning and designing stages of the development, which are scheduled to be completed by the end of this year.

The planned complex would also include a driving center, a 50-room hotel and a conference facility.

The Hungarian National Auto Sports Association (MNASZ) is planning to bid for hosting the last rounds of the FIA European Rally Championships in 2019-23 at the planned Nyíregyháza arena, the organisation said.
