The government is planning to spend more than Ft 60 billion on renovating historic mansions, palaces, castles and fortresses in the country until 2020, partially to make them more attractive to tourists, local business daily Világgazdaság has reported.

The already running National Mansions and Castles Program is aimed at reconstructing and upgrading 39 buildings in total, Világgazdaság said, citing state-owned program operator NÖF Nonprofit. The government plans to spend Ft 37.5 billion on 20 mansions and an additional Ft 25.8 billion on 19 castles.

During the planned upgrades, new functions and services would be also added at the historic buildings participating in the program, the report said. Reconstructions have already started at nine locations and will continue at another 14 locations after public procurement procedures are completed, it said.
