The direct contribution of the tourism sector to Hungary's GDP will increase by 3% to about Ft 937.8 billion this year from Ft 910.2 billion, or 2.4% of GDP, last year, according to the latest report by the World Travel & Tourism Council (WTTC).

Annual growth will then decline to about 2.1% in the next decade, with direct contribution of tourism to the country's GDP reaching Ft 1,159.8 billion in 2028, WTTC said.

Investments in the sector will increase by 1.2% in average annually in 2018-28, down from a 6.5% growth expected for this year. WTTC calculates that total tourism investments will exceed Ft 400 billion in 2018, compared to Ft 380.8 billion last year.

International tourist arrivals to Hungary are forecast to total nearly 20.19 million in 2028, up from about 17.43 million expected for this year, WTCC said.
