Italy was the most important inbound market for Budapest hotels in January, followed by the UK, Russia and Germany, according to the Budapest Festival and Tourism Center (Budapesti Fesztivál- és Turisztikai Központ - BFTK).

The number of guest nights at commercial accomodation providers in Budapest exceed 600,000 in January for the first time for this month of the year, BFTK said.

Combined with the estimated number of guest nights spent at private accommodation - mostly booked through Airbnb, the total number of guest nights in Budapest might have easily reached one million in a single month, it added.

Italy was the biggest inbound market for Budapest hotels in January, with 49,845 visitors. They were followed by guests from the UK (48,628), Russia (43,972) and Germany (34,605). Other strong markets (with more than 20,000 visitors in January) included France, Israel and the US.
