The 9th district in Budapest, also known as Ferencváros, was the fastest developing area within the city in December regarding the increase of guest nights, according to the BTFK Budapest Festival and Tourism Center.

The number of guest nights in Ferencváros totaled 49,501 in December, up by 29.5% from the same period a year earlier. This was the biggest growth among Budapest districts at the end of last year.

Ferencváros outshines even the party district

The 9th district saw robust growth mostly because of new hotel openings last year. The four-star Hotel Di Verdi Imperial started operation on Üllői Street with 73 rooms and the 60-room Three Corners Lifestyle has opened on Hőgyes Endre Street.

The expansion is expected to continue in 2018 with the future opening of the 184-room Meininger Hotel in the spring this year.

The 5th district in downtown Budapest and the 7th district (aka the party district) with its busy nightlife remained the most popular tourist areas in the capital in December. Guest nights here totaled 188,915 and 127,509, respectively.

The four central districts in Budapest (5, 6, 7 and 8) together accounted for about 60% of total guest nights.

Budapest attracted more than 4.28 million visitors last year in total, who spent more than 10 million guest nights in the city combined.
