Hotel chain operator Danubius Hotels is planning to re-open the restaurant of its Győr property to walk-in customers later this month after solving an unexpected labour shortage problem.

The Belga Restaurant at Hotel Rába City Center in Győr previously limited its services to hotel guests only after all of its waiters quit at the same time, local newspaper Kisalföld has reported.

The report said labour shortages have been a big problem for hospitality companies in the region, partially as higher salaries attract many local employees to get new jobs in neighboring Austria.

Danubius Hotels told turizmus.com that it managed to hire three new employees and started discussions to recruit a potential new restaurant director within two weeks after four waiters and the former director left Belga in August.

Kisalföld has reported that the restaurant continued to serve hotel guests thanks to hotel staff members, including executives, who temporarily filled in for the waiters at Belga.

Danubius Hotels said it was "exemplary" that hotel director Balázs Bánhegyi and other executives helped out at the restaurant, going above and beyond their duties.
