Companies in the tourism sector employed 11,000 seasonal workers in January-June this year, local daily Magyar Idők said, citing data from tax authority NAV.
The total number of people employed seasonally in the government's simplified employment scheme rose to 631,000 in the first half of this year from 590,000 a year earlier, the report said. Most of the seasonal workers are employed in agriculture.

Labour shortage is one of the biggest problems in the local tourism and hospitality sectors. These two segments would need about 400,000 new employees in total, Attila Bándoli, vice president of the National Association of Tourism and Hospitality Employers (Turisztikai és Vendéglátó Munkaadók Országos Szövetsége - Vimosz), said in March.
