Hungary will see 20 new hotel openings this year with about 1,300 new rooms, up from 13 openings and 850 rooms last year, according to data from the Association of Hungarian Hotels and Restaurants (Magyar Szállodák és Éttermek Szövetsége - MSZÉSZ).
The 145-room Ibis Styles Budapest Airport and the 86-room Hotel Clark already opened this year in Budapest, but there will be another seven properties opening in the capital and 11 in the countryside through the rest of 2018, the association said.

An even bigger boom is expected for 2019-20, when another 19 hotels will start operation in the country with slightly more than 2,900 rooms combined. The biggest countryside unit will be the 120-room four-star Hotel Zalaegerszeg, opening in 2019.

In Budapest, there are plans for several new properties with 100-200 rooms. The 300-room InterCity Hotel near the Keleti railway station will include three-star and four-star rooms after it opens in 2020.
