Hungarian tour operators increased their revenues by 5% last year in average and are expecting further growth this year, according to industry organizations.

About one third of the country's tour operators saw an annual revenue increase of more than 10% last year, industry organizations said. Bálint Erdei, president of the Hungarian Association of Travel Agencies (Magyar Utazási Irodák Szövetsége - MUISZ).

MUISZ currently has a membership of about 200 companies, which generate Ft 170-180 billion in combined revenue annually. This accounts for approximately 82% of the country's organized tourism sector.

Erdei said MUISZ is expecting an increase in traveler numbers both in inbound and outbound tourism this year. He also said that there is currently a shortage of three and four-star hotels in Budapest offering 300-400 rooms.
