Events are increasingly important in the Hungarian tourism market as the local conventions, exhibitions and meetings sector is finally leaving the effects of the economic crisis behind, according to Gábor Ganczer, chief executive of Hungexpo, the country's biggest exhibition organizer.
Ganczer also serves as the president of the Association of Hungarian Event Organizers and Service Providers (MaResz).
"The event organizer industry is buzzing again," he told turizmus.com in a recent interview.
Ganczer expects 2018 to be a successful year partially as some of the previously discontinued events have been relaunched and organizers of conferences and other events now show a bigger willingness to spend.
This trend is also visible at Hungexpo, which is upgrading its facilities and will hold three new exhibitions this year (Hungaromedica, Otthon Design Ősz and Beauty & Style).

Ganczer said he is also optimistic about the long-term outlook of the domestic tourism sector until 2022, but he also sees challenges in business tourism.
"We're still in time to catch up with grandiose development projects elsewhere in Europe, but if we don't start similar projects in the near future, we may easily miss this boat and other countries in the region may quickly win over big-spending business travelers," he said.
