The city of Szolnok has started a Ft 950 million project to develop the area of its former castle into a tourist attraction.
The development, scheduled to be completed by the end of this year, will include the construction of a visitor center, featuring a Turkish café, an interactive exhibition about the history of the former castle area and a viewing deck on the top floor.
The city will also renovate the Artist Tower, a complex local artists built using stones from the ruins of the former castle in the beginning of the 20th century. Other developments will include the constrution of a new promenade along the Zagyva river, along the walls of the former castle.

The former castle at Szolnok was built in the 16th century, but was totally destroyed by the earl 19th century.

Szolnok has already started the development of a new cultural and artist quarter near the area of the former castle with a total investment of more than Ft 1.1 billion. This project is scheduled to be completed by the middle of 2020.
