Wages in the domestic tourism and hospitality sector increased by an average 10.7% in January-March, slower than the overall 12.4% rise in the economy, according to data from the Central Statistics Office.

Salary increases were partially driven by the 8% rise of the mandatory wage minimum and the 12% hike in the guaranteed wage minimum for employees with secondary or higher education.

The total number of people employed in tourism and hospitality rose by 4.7% in January-March from a year earlier, which translates into more than 100,000 new hires in this sector.
