The average gross monthly wage of full-time employees in the accommodation and hospitality sector rose by 10.9% in January-June to Ft 208,232 from Ft 188,650 a year earlier, according to the latest data from the Central Statistics Office (KSH).

This still lagged overall wage growth in the economy in the first half of this year. The average gross monthly wage in the country rose by 11.9% to Ft Ft 324,400 in January-June.

But finance minister Mihály Varga said tourism and other sectors facing labour shortages, like construction and health care, saw significant wage increases, which may help stabilize the number of employees and could also ensure the inflow of new employees in the future.

Accommodation and hospitality wages increased by 11% to Ft Ft 208,854 in average in June. This compares with a 11.2% overall increase to Ft 329,576 in the economy, according to data from the statistics office.
