The government is planning to spend more than Ft 1.7 billion to renovate the Festetics mansion in Dég, southwest of Budapest, near Lake Balaton.

The planned upgrade will include the renovation of the facade and the replacement of the roof at the mansion, which was originally designed by Hungarian architect Mihály Pollack and built in 1815-19 for the Festetics family.

The mansion has several lakes and a 27-hectare park, which was upgraded in 2015. The renovated main building is expected to house a display about the history of the Festetics family, a café and a gift shop.

Hungary has been working to renovate and upgrade many of its mansions and castles in an overall development program. The government has earmarked Ft 57.5 billion for upgrading 20 mansions and 19 castles nationwide in the next few years.
