Those entrepreneurs successfully running businesses in tourism are patriots by definition, as tourism is a livelihood that represents patriotism, prime minister Viktor Orbán said at the Turizmus Summit 2018 conference.

Hungary has not only the freedom but also the strength to rebuild tourism as much as possible thanks to the country's economic results, according to Orbán.

In his speech, he encouraged young people working in tourism to gain experience abroad, but not to forget that they have a home country they can return to and where they can use their experience.

Tourism is one of the most successful sectors in the Hungarian economy, because the country is among the safest ones in Europe, Orbán said.

He said about 400,000 people are employed in tourism, which currently accounts for little more than 10% of the country's GDP. The government is working to increase this share to 16% by 2030, he said.

Last year was the best ever in Hungary's tourism and this year is expected to be equally successful or even stronger than last year, according to the prime minister.

Orbán said domestic tourism should be further strengthened in the future and all parts of the country should be involved in the development of the industry besides Budapest.

The government's national tourism strategy, announced a year ago, also envisions doubling the number of guest nights and upgrading 1,000 accommodations and catering establishments by 2030. Budapest is planning to provide Ft 820 billion of funding for necessary developments in 2017-30.
